Expert advisors for MT4 and MT5

Expert advisors that know when to sit out.

A quiet bar is a candle where nothing happens. Our EAs spend most of their bars like that, on purpose. Each one has written rules for when it does not trade, a public changelog, and test results printed beside their limits.

Free when you trade on an account opened through us at Ferncastle Markets fictional broker. We are paid on the volume you trade, which is a conflict of interest. What we do about it

The quiet bar

Most sessions, the right trade is none.

Every Quietbar EA checks a list of conditions before it does anything. If one fails, it writes a line to the journal saying which, and waits. In our forward test that is the outcome for most sessions, and it is the reason the EAs exist.

Past performance

Forward-test results are past performance on one live account at one broker. Your results will differ with your broker, account type, terminal, settings and start date. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.

All figures on this showcase are shown as x.

How we build

Five rules every release is held to.

They are written here so that you can check each release against them, and so that we cannot quietly drop one.

Read the changelog
  1. Every EA has written stand-down rules.

If we cannot say in one sentence when it should not trade, it does not ship.

  2. Lot size comes from risk, never the other way round.

You set the percent of balance at risk. The EA works out the size from the stop distance.

  3. No grid, no martingale, no recovery mode.

Nothing that adds to a loser or raises size after a loss. We removed the one option that did.

  4. Every release states how it changes trade frequency.

More trades means more commission for us. You should see that change before it happens.

  5. Backtest and forward test are never mixed.

They sit in separate tables, with separate disclaimers, and the forward test is never trimmed.

Licence

Free, because the broker pays us.

The licence is tied to an account you open through Quietbar at Ferncastle Markets. We receive a commission on the volume traded on that account. That is the whole business model.

  1. Open an account through our link

A Raw account at Ferncastle Markets. Your account number is tagged to Quietbar as the introducing broker.

  2. Request a licence

Give us the account number. We check the tag and issue a key bound to that account and up to x demo accounts.

  3. Install and test on demo first

Follow the docs. Run it on demo for at least a few weeks before it touches money.

The conflict, stated plainly

An EA that trades more costs you more in spread and commission, and pays us more. We could earn more by shipping busier EAs. Here is what we do instead.

  • Defaults are chosen from test results, with no volume target.
  • Trades per month is printed next to every result and every product.
  • Every release says whether it makes the EA trade more or less.
  • The licence has no minimum volume. Switch it off for a year; it stays valid.

Changelog

Recent releases, fixes included.

We publish what broke as well as what changed. The forward test found most of these, and some came from support messages.

Every release
  1. vx.x.xHingeFrequency: Fewer trades

Holiday calendar and a whipsaw guard at the open.

Fixed After a terminal restart between 07:00 and 10:00, Hinge could place a second pair of pending orders for the same morning. It now reads its own open orders before placing any.

  2. vx.x.xAll EAsFrequency: No change

Clearer journal messages and a licence fix.

Fixed Accounts whose number had a leading zero were reported as unlicensed on MT4. The licence check now compares the full account number as text.

  3. vx.x.xLullFrequency: Fewer trades

Default spread cap lowered after the forward test.

Fixed The forced close at 07:00 used the terminal's clock rather than the server's. On terminals in another time zone, positions could stay open past the session.

Testing

Tested, with the limits printed next to the results.

Backtests are modelled with variable spread, added slippage and real commission, then run once on data kept back during development. A live forward test runs separately on default settings. Both tables carry their own warning, and neither is a forecast.
