Ledge
Pullbacks in an established H4 trend. Silence everywhere else.
Ledge only acts when a trend on the four-hour chart is already clear, and then only on a pullback to a level the trend has respected before. In ranges and choppy weeks it holds nothing.

- about x (forward test)
It checks for a trend on the H4 chart: price on one side of two moving averages that are themselves in order and sloping.
It waits for price to pull back to the slower average, then for an H4 bar to close back in the trend's direction.
One position opens with a stop beyond the pullback's low or high. There is no fixed target; the stop trails as the trend continues.
If the trend condition breaks while a trade is open, the trade is closed at the next bar.
A circuit breaker stops new entries if the account is down more than a set amount from its peak.
Ledge stands down when any of these is true.
In the forward test Ledge sat out xx% of the sessions it was eligible for. Each stand-down writes one journal line naming the rule and the value that triggered it.
SD-01No clear H4 trend
Most of the time there is none. Ledge does not try to find one.
SD-02Equity drawdown above the circuit breaker
If the account is well below its peak, conditions are not what the EA was built for. It waits for you to review and reset it.
SD-03Friday after 18:00 server time (optional)
With weekend holding switched off, it will not open a trade it would have to close a few hours later.
SD-04Rate decision for the pair's currencies within the next bar
A rate decision can move a pair further in one bar than a week of normal trading.
SD-05Swap cost above the cap
For multi-day holds, a large overnight charge can outweigh the expected move.
SD-06Gold spread above its own cap
Gold spreads widen sharply at rollover and around news. Ledge treats it separately from the currency pairs.
Every input, its default and its limits
Ranges are enforced: a value outside them is refused when the EA starts. Defaults are the settings the forward test runs on.
| Input | Type | Default | Range | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
RiskPerTrade | double | x.x | x.x – x.x | Percent of balance at risk per position. |
MaxOpenPositions | int | x | x – x | Across all three symbols. Correlated pairs count towards the same cap. |
CircuitBreaker | double | xx.x | x.x – xx.x | Percent drawdown from peak equity at which new entries stop until you reset the EA. |
HoldOverWeekend | bool | false | true / false | When false, open positions are closed on Friday and no new ones open late on Friday. |
MaxSwapPoints | double | x.x | x.x – x.x | Ledge will not open a position whose overnight charge is above this. |
GoldMaxSpread | int | xx | xx – xx | The spread cap for XAUUSD, separate from the currency pairs. |
MagicNumber | int | xxxxxx | any | Tags Ledge's orders so it never touches anything else. |
Raising the caps or the risk to make the EA trade more does not make it better. The caps sit where testing showed the edge disappears, and every extra trade costs you spread and commission.

Ledge holds for days, so it needs a terminal that stays connected: a VPS, not a laptop.
Anyone uncomfortable holding a losing position for several days, or who cannot run a terminal around the clock.

ChangelogLedge in testing
Two separate measurements. The backtest is hypothetical; the forward test is past performance on one live account. Drawdown is printed before return.
| Test | Period | Max drawdown | Net result | Trades | Sat out |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Backtest (hypothetical) | Out-of-sample, xxxx – xxxx | −x.x% | xx.x% | xxx | xx% |
| Forward test (live) | xx.xx.xxxx – today | −x.x% | xx.x% | xxx | xx% |
Backtest results are hypothetical. They come from running the EA on historical prices, with costs modelled rather than paid, and with the benefit of hindsight in how the rules were chosen. No backtest accounts for every effect of real trading, such as liquidity at the moment of an order or a broker's execution on a given day.
Forward-test results are past performance on one live account at one broker. Your results will differ with your broker, account type, terminal, settings and start date. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
